As hurricane season continues to threaten properties along the southern coast of the Outer Banks, hotels such as “Lighthouse View” (pictured) work tirelessly to protect their remaining properties. This year alone, 10 homes have collapsed under the intense storm surge caused by Hurricanes Erin, Humberto, and Imelda. With no end to the erosion in sight, property owners barricade the coastline with sandbags and rush to repair and reroute water and electrical lines. The locals of Buxton are no strangers to these dangers, and as the shoreline retreats, they fight back to preserve their homes against the power of Mother Nature.
